The Jewel - Amy Ewing

Review

The Jewel by Amy Ewing

The Jewel means wealth, the Jewel means beauty—but for Violet, the Jewel means servitude. Born and raised in the Marsh, Violet finds herself living in the Jewel as a servant at the estate of the Duchess of the Lake. Addressed only by her number—#197—Violet is quickly thrown into the royal way of life. But behind its opulent and glittering facade, the Jewel hides its cruel and brutal truth, filled with violence, manipulation, and death.

Violet must accept the ugly realities of her life . . . all while trying to stay alive. But before she can accept her fate, Violet meets a handsome boy who is also under the Duchess’s control, and a forbidden love erupts. But their illicit affair has consequences, which will cost them both more than they bargained for. And toeing the line between being calculating and rebellious, Violet must decide what, and who, she is willing to risk for her own freedom.

I cant remember when I first came across this book, I just remember when I found it I wanted it, so I tried to get a review copy and failed but oh well, so when I saw it in my local Waterstones I picked it up straight away. If any of you haven't heard of this yet, trust me you will soon. The Jewel has been described as a mix between The Selection series and The Handmaids tale, so of course I knew I would love it.

The Jewel follows the story of Violet, a young woman who has magical powers and has been raised to be sold off in an auction to bear children for the rich and royal of the land. (weird I know) This is the basic premise of the novel if I  go anymore into it I wont stop and I will spoil the book for you, and I don't want to do that.

The Jewel honestly took a day to read and finish because I was hooked the moment I started it, the writing is amazing, the characters and lovable , hate-able and everything in between which I love and there are surprises around every corner. I loved it so much it is already on my favourites list which means its beyond amazing seeing as it only came out last month. I highly recommend this book to fans of The Selection and overall lovers of fantasy and dystopia novels.

Write again soon
